Specifying Multimedia QoS Parameters and Synchronization using

چکیده
A distributed multimedia system (DMS) involves the transmissions of different types of data over the same or different communication channels. Data include noncontinuous ones, like text and image, and continuous ones, like video and audio, which are characterized by time. A specification language to specify multimedia Quality of Service (QoS) parameters synchronisation mechanisms, it must be able to support the timing relationship between different types of data. Estelle, an internationally standardized Formal Description Technique (FDT) for specifying communication protocols and distributed systems, does not have enough expressing power to specify the timedependent behaviours of a module of a distributed system. To address this limitation, we have developed an extended Estelle, called Time-Estelle [1] which is capable of describing QoS parameters and synchronization requirements of a DMS. In this paper, we first present a review of QoS formal specification, then Time-Estelle, and finally describe the application of TimeEstelle to specify some QoS parameters and synchronization mechanisms for a DMS.

A Method for Designing Multimedia Protocols using Both Parametric Model Checking and Functional Testing
In this paper, we propose a method for designing multimedia protocols using both parametric model checking and functional testing. Especially, we focus on designing media synchronization protocols. We specify a given media synchronization protocol as concurrent periodic timed automata with temporal properties where QoS parameters of the underlying network and timing parameters of the protocol a...
متن کاملJitter Detection for Connection-Level and Packet-Level QoS support in Mobile Multimedia Networks
Multimedia traffic which are generally VBR in nature require efficient adaptive resource allocation schemes when supported over Mobile Networks. Admission control schemes that satisfy the desired/guaranteed QoS for multimedia applications under different traffic loads to achieve high utilization need to be designed. Packet level QoS parameters include delay, packet loss probability and jitter w...
متن کاملReal-Time Resource Reservation for Synchronized Multimedia Object over Wireless LAN
The increasing use of wireless networks has necessitated the development of a wireless networking infrastructure that supports quality of service (QoS) for multimedia communications. Proxy servers are gaining prominence in facilitating QoS assurance and intelligent resource allocation for multimedia services. In this paper, we propose a proxy-based framework that provides QoS support to mobile ...
متن کاملModeling, Analysis and Implementation of Actor-based Multimedia Systems
This paper presents an approach centered on a time-sensitive Actor framework suited to the modeling, analysis and implementation of multimedia systems. A distributed multimedia system consists of a collection of autonomous media actors interacting to one another to fulfil a common goal, e.g., interactive videoconference, video recording on-demand, etc. Timing synchronization activities rest on ...
متن کاملMutually compensatory property of multimedia QoS
This paper studies user–level (or perceptual) QoS for multimedia applications over the Internet and demonstrates that media can compensate for each other from a perceptual point of view. For this study, we formulate the problem of the mutually compensatory property in terms of QoS mapping relation between application–level and user–level; we then conduct a simple experiment on lip synchronizati...
